It was a dream come true. I had been dropped off at the top of a mountain and faced the exciting task of reaching a valley we overlooked where an old volcano crater had been transformed by time into a breathtakingly clear, blue, lagoon. I had 6 hours and an equally excited teammate, Audrey. We started walking along a muddy, steep path that took us partway around the lagoon. Realizing that the descent was slow and we had been walking for nearly an hour, we decided to turn down a scarcely travelled trail that led steeply down the mountian. Jungley vines hung down and animals scurried as we walked past. We walked along a steep cliff that added depth to the already layered trees. I broke through spiderwebs and traversed mud while hunched to go under the brush. Eventually, we ended up along a more travelled path again and walked until we reached a small town in the mountians. It looked different than the other places we have travelled so we took it all in. A bus ride, walk, and terrifyingly speedy tuk-tuk/motto ride later we reached a road where we found a hostel that lets you use their facilities and beach for $6 a day. It was beautiful, covered in beautiful trees lined along the shore. We swam in the glassy clear, naturally warm water and admired the moutains around us. The sun shone brightly and we literally kept laughing and thanking Jesus for taking us to this paradise. We kayaked to a hot spring and dived off of our kayaks in the middle of the lagoon. Still in amazement by how great our God was to us, we started on our way home, not even knowing which city we were in. Two hours, a taxi ride where we shared the front seat, a crowded bus, a walk through a local market where we bought bananas, oranges and enchalada's for lunch (for less than 50 cents), a van ride, a sketchy bus station, 30 pages of a book, 3 new Israili friends and a van ride later we were safe at home with a story to tell.
God is so awesome.
Pictures to come soon.
