Dear people who think Christians are crazy,
Christianity doesn't really work like other things. Don't stop reading yet, let me explain. I'm not saying that just because crazy people, like myself, say that the way God works is an anomoly compared to everything else you've ever experienced that you should believe it. That would probably top your crazy sundae with nieve sprinkles and gullible syrup. But I'm pleading with you to think about this for a minute... God's not dumb, He's well aware that some bible stories are a little off the top. I mean, really, a flood, over the whole earth? By my calculations that would require a bit of a higher water to land ratio on the planet. The ax head floated - mhmmm, right, actually my dumbell's floating in the bathtub right now. And, oh right, after spending three days stinking up a tomb, Jesus came back alive and went hot air balloon-style to heaven. But consider that the bible makes it pretty clear that Jesus's life and death, and the stories in the bible come across a lot like made up folk tales and sci-fi movies. In 1 Corinthians chapter 1, Paul writes that his purpose is to, "Preach the Good News and not with clever speech, for fear that the cross of Christ would loose it's power."Then, a few verses down he writes,
"Since God in His wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preachings to save those who believe."
The Bible tells us to think foolishly! It says that, ya, the stories are obviously oversimplified, but that's becuase Jesus's teachings were freaking nuts and you just can't analyze them up and down because their simple, ridiculous truth makes them powerful!
It's easy to get caught up in thinking that the Bible is always right because, duh, the people who wrote it knew how things worked down here on the third planet. But, is it possible that God actually got it bang on because He made it like that. You decide.
You see, it isn't about understanding. In this life you are NEVER going to understand God. Bible stories don't magically make sense to Christians. I, personally, do not believe in God because I think that the Bible is true. Harry Potter's not true, and there is no disclaimer after the copyright proclaiming it's made up. The Koran's not true, not just because a lot of people believe it, anyways. I believe that the Bible is true because God, in some way I can't phathom, has revealed Himself to my spirit and so I know that He is truth.
1 Corinthians 1 also says that God chose people and things that the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. You can't have both worldy and Godly wisdom. Business sense, scientific knowledge, wisdom to counsel - it's all useless when it comes to trying to 'get' God.
If you've written off Christianity because it doesn't seem sensical, or if your faith is dwindling because you are caught up in divine logistics, try a new appraoch. Break out your sincerity and ask God to soften your heart to His truth. Ask Him to give you another chance to say, because somewhere beneath your bones you desire more, "Yes, God, I want to believe in you." Jesus has a passionate love for specifically you, and if you come to Him with a desire to know Him, even if you're still not convinced in the slightest that He is possible, He will hear you and you will begin to see His truth. John 16:12 says that the Spirit of God will, "guide you into all truth." If you would be willing to give up the security of your own comprehension and wisdom, to be overcome by God's truth, He will empower you when you seek Him.
Please, please, please don't give up on God because He doesn't make sense, discover His spirit for yourself. Seek Him with everything you've got, and He will find you.
With concern, but in love,
A crazy Christian
